Timber Compliance Manager

TIMBER COMPLIANCE MANAGER
A highly independent, flexible and challenging position within the timber industry.

Hotim is a large hardwood trader and imports timber from Africa, Asia and elsewhere. As an importer, we must meet the requirements set out in European legislation. For example, we must be able to prove that the wood we import from outside Europe was not illegally felled or traded. We have a Due Diligence System (DDS) that helps with this. This is used to collect information and documentation on suppliers, the origin and type of wood, sanctions, corruption, etc.
On this basis, the risks associated with the wood to be imported are assessed and measures taken where necessary. Legally and sustainably produced wood is our top priority. We have therefore been FSC® and PEFC certified for more than 20 years. Do you also want forests worldwide to be preserved so we can continue to enjoy beautiful wood products? You can contribute to that in this challenging new position!

Your main responsibilities:

  • Managing all timber regulatory and policy compliance responsibilities
  • Maintaining and setting up (new) files for our DDS for the purposes of the EUTR
  • Conducting a risk assessment and taking risk mitigation measures
  • Preparing supplier audits in the country of origin and supervising internal audits
  • Maintaining and planning quality label certification for FSC® and PEFC, and checking Chain-of-Custody

Your daily activities:

  • Requesting supplier and legal information from different countries, agencies and ministries
  • Based on the DDS, retrieving the required documentation per supplier (continuously updating files)

Your talents:

  • Data gathering, analysis and communication experience.
  • You can grasp complex (legal) material and make it your own
  • You consider it a challenge to get concrete answers
  • You have an excellent command of French (a must) and English (Dutch is not necessarily a must)
  • You are good at networking and making contacts
  • A big plus: experience of wood compliance management, understanding of EUTR and FSC/PEFC accreditation schemes.

Your background:

  • MBO+ or degree level
  • An administrative or legal education, experience is a plus
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office (including Excel)
  • You have a driver’s licence

We offer:

  • A highly independent, flexible and challenging position
  • A competitive salary based on age and experience
  • Good benefits, such as travel expenses, pension, training and education opportunities, company outings
  • A job for 24-32 hours per week (times/days to be determined by mutual agreement)
  • Ability to work partially from home
  • A position in which your talents contribute towards sustainable and responsible timber imports
  • A position in a financially strong organisation
